| Uniplex FAQ |
A uniplex is a physical adapter used to allow communication with additional CAN bus networks on certain vehicles. It is used in conjunction with the ACR4, G2 pod and CAN harness. Vehicle manufacturers have recently begun adding additional CAN bus networks to vehicles which were not present when the CAN harness was originally designed. In order to be able to access diagnostic systems that use these newer networks it was necessary to either develop a new CAN harness or produce a low cost adapter to allow the existing CAN harnesses to communicate. The latest SP Diagnostics handset (the SPi) does not require the use of any uniplex adapaters and can communicate with any CAN bus network using the single universal cable provided with the SPi. The uniplex fits between the CAN harness vehicle connection and the diagnostic connector in the vehicle. When disconnecting from the vehicle ensure you do not leave the uniplex behind in the vehicle diagnostic socket. 4. How do I know when to use a uniplex? The applications list (available here) will tell you when a uniplex is required for an application by the part number being listed alongside the CAN harness part number, e.g. 302141V2 + 30215370. Also the software will prompt you when you enter an application requiring a uniplex (e.g. 'Ensure CAN Uniplex 30215370 is fitted'). 5. Are uniplexes compatible with the original V1 CAN Harness (30214100)? Yes, all four currently available uniplexes support both the original (30214100) and fault tollerant (302141V2) CAN Harnesses. In the application guide you may find that only 302141V2 is listed, this is usually purely because we do not have space to write 30214100/V2 to indicate both CAN harnesses are suitable and the 302141V2 is the only CAN harness currently available to purchase. The only instance currently where the V2 (FT) CAN Harness is required is for Fiat vehicles with a fault on the CAN bus. 6. The uniplex I have received has a different part number to that which I ordered. Do I have the correct product? Part numbers for uniplex adapters have unfortunately varied depending on where they are quoted (on the product/when ordered/when requested in ACR4 software). 7. Is it correct that the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) is required for Airbag on some Ford vehicles? Yes, although the 302153 uniplex is often listed as 'Landrover' in documentation it is not limited to use on Landrover vehicles. It was originally designed to enable communication with Landrover vehicles but when the CAN based Ford airbag system was implemented we discovered the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) was suitable for that application as well. Instead of creating a 'Ford' uniplex we simply listed that the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) be used. 8. Can the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) be used for Volvo ABS/Service Reset? No, although technically this adapter may work on some Volvo vehicles we would advise that you always use the 'Volvo' uniplex (302154) to ensure that you can get communications with all supported Volvo vehicles. Originally it was thought that the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) was suitable for use on these Volvo vehicles but it was since discovered that in some cases the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) would not work and so the 'Volvo' uniplex (302154) was developed. For this reason you may see some old (incorrect) references to the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) for Volvo applications and you should read these as the 'Volvo' uniplex (302154) instead. 9. What is the 'PSA' uniplex (302152) used for?
10. What is the 'Landrover' uniplex (302153) used for?
11. What is the 'Volvo' uniplex (302154) used for?
